The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Branch Manager for the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

The St. Johns County Public Library System operates six branch libraries, along with Bookmobile Services, and Books-by-Mail.   SJCPLS provides library service to over 84,000 cardholders. 

The newly selected Branch Manager will oversee the daily operations of a 25,000 sq. ft. branch library which serves as the de facto community center for Ponte Vedra Beach.  This library location benefits from an active and dynamic Friends of the Library group and is well used by all segments of the community.



$55,138.62 - $69,519.29 Annually


Examples of Duties

The ideal candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees the daily operations of an assigned library branch; trains, assigns, schedules, directs, supervises, evaluates and disciplines staff; manages building and grounds maintenance.
  • Assists the public with informational and circulation needs.
  • Resolves patron and personnel issues.
  • Maintains an awareness of library trends and issues; reads professional and related literature; attends workshops, seminars and conferences; maintains professional affiliations.
  • Develops, updates, and implements branch policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the collection and compilation of statistics; prepares monthly and other reports.
  • Recommends budgets to maintain or change service levels or to implement capital improvements.
  • Serves as liaison to the Friends of the Library support group and to other community and business organizations.
  • Responsible for overseeing branch collections.
  • Supervises the development and implementation of adult and youth programming.
  • Directs public relations and publicity operations for the library branch.
  • Maintains a full-time presence on the job.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Typical Qualifications

Candidates for the Library Branch Manager position are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Must possess a Master’s degree in Library Science from and accredited university or college and two years of professional level, paid and progressively responsible library or equivalent experience, or one year as an Assistant Branch Manager.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of professional library principles, methods, practices and materials as they apply to public service work.
  • Must have one to three years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited university.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years of experience or service.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
  • Must be able to operate a computer.
