Electronic Resources Librarian

 

Florida International University Libraries seeks an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and innovative individual to serve as the Electronic Resources Librarian. This position provides leadership and expertise in electronic resources management, supporting the life cycle of electronic resource acquisition and distribution.

 

As members of a large public university library supporting the research of a Carnegie R1 research institution, FIU Libraries librarians provide services in support of the instructional and research activities of students, faculty, staff, and administration of the University. Responsibilities

  • Manages electronic resources and associated processes through content management systems, library systems, and other tools to ensure seamless access and authentication for patrons.
  • Troubleshoots electronic resource access and authentication issues. Develops methodologies to track, notify, and resolve access and authentication issues. Liaises with vendors and internal and vendor IT representatives as needed to resolve access and authentication issues.
  • Develops and maintains guidelines, procedures, and documentation for electronic resource management.
  • Stages and tests new electronic resources. Establishes a trial period protocol for FIU Libraries and relevant University affiliates. Coordinates communications with relevant stakeholders across the university to inform them of any trial opportunities, access methods, and consolidates feedback.  Engages in associated vendor relations relative to the acquisition of new electronic resources.
  • Populates and manages COUNTER-Compliant usage data through proprietary systems, providing and reporting usage statistics and survey data. Condenses and summarizes data accurately and consistently. Reports on electronic resources utilization using library systems.
  • Makes data-driven and patron-responsive collection development recommendations.
  • Develops initiatives to improve knowledge of and access to electronic resources and open educational resources, including accessibility for all eligible users. Engages in outreach efforts to promote and ensure institutional knowledge continuity of electronic resources to patrons. Provides training and instruction in electronic resources, their authentication and access, and utilization best practices.
  • Explores new and emerging electronic resource management methods and technologies. Participates in continuing education, conference, workshops, seminars, or other activities that enhance professional knowledge.
  • Contributes to the profession through active participation in professional associations, research, or other scholarly activities.
  • Supervises students and/or staff.
  • Other duties as assigned or directed to fulfill the mission and strategic goals of the University and University Libraries. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an ALA accredited program.
  • Evidence of relevant experience electronic resource acquisitions and management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current standards, best practices and emerging trends in electronic resource management.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Professional experience in academic libraries, especially in acquisitions, serials control, electronic resources management, and/or license preparation.
  • Experience working with electronic resource tools, electronic resource management systems, knowledge bases, and library acquisitions.
  • Experience working with Ex Libris Alma ERM, OpenAthens, Celus, Springshare LibApps, and Consortia Manager.
  • Experience collaborating and working with diverse teams.
  • Record of scholarly and professional activity illustrating a desire to advance the profession.
  • Evidence of leadership and management skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Foreign language fluency (Spanish preferred).
