The Holocaust Documentation and Education Center, Inc., (HDEC) is a non-profit, nonsectarian organization devoted to documenting the memory of the Holocaust and educating today’s generation about the history, lessons, and legacy of the Holocaust.
We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated Librarian to join our team. As a librarian, you will perform a range of duties such as cataloging library resources, maintaining library records, managing budgets, etc.
For this position, you will have to demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills, as a great part of your job will involve interacting with our community and beyond. The ideal candidate should also possess in-depth knowledge of library database systems, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills.
Librarian Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain a library within the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center Museum.
- Collecting and cataloging library resources including books, films, and publications.
- Helping people locate reference and leisure reading materials.
- Maintaining library records and ensuring they are up to date.
- Performing regular audits of the information and inventory on file.
- Educating patrons on how to properly search for information using the library databases.
- Managing budgeting, planning and employee activities.
- Organizing and hosting book sales and author visits.
- Clarifying the use of library amenities and providing information about library policies.
- Ensuring the library meets the needs of precise groups of its users.
Librarian Requirements:
- A Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of related experience.
- Excellent IT skills and knowledge of library databases.
- Outstanding organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
