Job Summary

Florida Gulf Coast University Library, a comprehensive university dedicated to quality education, research, and service seeks to hire a collaborative and service-oriented Research Impact Librarian who will report to the Chair of Research, Scholarship, & Instruction. The successful candidate will employ their own creativity and enthusiasm to help define this new position but will work in close collaboration with the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs; library colleagues; and other campus partners to develop, support, and implement services that elevates faculty scholarship and measures its impact.

Job Description

Typical duties may be included but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to educate and inform campus stakeholders about available research impact services.
  • Collaborate with liaison librarians to integrate impact services into their work.
  • Provide consultations and training to faculty, students, and administrators on research impact topics such as bibliometrics, Altmetrics, scholarly profiles, identifying high-impact journals, and increasing research visibility.
  • Subject liaison responsibilities for department(s) or program(s).
  • Investigate and recommend appropriate tools, systems, and metrics to support research impact assessment. Stay current on evolving best practices in measuring impact.
  • Contribute to the library’s data storytelling efforts by analyzing citation patterns and benchmarks, identifying research strengths, and visualizing trends.
  • Document, collect, and analyze search and scholarly activity data to demonstrate impact.
  • Provide evidence and context of research engagement, influence, and impact.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters in Library or Information Science from an accredited program or a terminal degree in a related field. 
  • Experience working in a team-based environment to provide consultations and deliver services related to increasing researcher visibility and profiles.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in an academic library.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience using bibliometric data sources such as Web of Science, InCites, Scopus, SciVal, and/or Google Scholar.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of university research environments and ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Knowledge of researcher profiling systems (e.g., ORCID, Researcher ID, etc.)
  • Understanding of issues related to responsible research evaluation using bibliometric data.
  • Knowledge of basic and derivative bibliometrics (publication counts, citation counts, h-index, and other citation-based impact metrics).
  • Strong written and verbal skills for teaching, troubleshooting, and producing documentation and reports.
  • Ability to take initiative, create opportunities, and develop effective partnerships.
