The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Libraries seeks an inquisitive and analytical Collection Strategist to work at the John C. Hitt Library in Orlando, Florida. This position will join the Division of Collection Services & Resource Management (CSRM) providing holistic collection services to support the vibrant UCF community.  Reporting directly to the Associate Dean for the CSRM Division, the position will lead the Libraries’ data-informed collection assessments and recommend practices to optimize library collection strategies. The successful candidate must have experience in collection services, be adaptive and collaborative, and demonstrate abilities to synthesize data and contextualize complex information. We will hire at the rank of Assistant or Associate Librarian.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design interpretive reports and data visualizations to best communicate the impact of library collections in supporting UCF’s research, teaching, and learning priorities.
  • Lead collection analyses for the UCF academic program reviews, accreditations, and new program proposals in collaboration with subject librarians.
  • Develop consistent assessment plans and benchmarks for collection services.
  • Establish transformative workflows to meet the evolving collection needs of the UCF community.
  • Coordinate effective licensing processes for the library collection contents and applications.
  • Investigate emerging trends in collection initiatives and incorporate them into the Libraries’ collections framework.

 

The UCF Libraries include the John C. Hitt Library, the Curriculum Materials Center, and Special Collections and University Archives on the Orlando main campus; branch libraries on the Rosen College and Downtown campuses; and partnerships with Direct Connect state colleges. The Libraries offers a collection of more than 2.2 million volumes, is a partial depository for government documents and patents, and manages the institutional repository STARS. We are members of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL), Center for Research Libraries (CRL), Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC), Tampa Bay Library Consortium (TBLC), and HathiTrust. The UCF Libraries has 105 full-time staff comprised of 44 faculty librarians, 61 support and administrative staff, and 50+ student employees dedicated to serving UCF faculty, staff, students, and the greater Orlando community. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree earned from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA).
  • At least 5 years working in library collection services, such as electronic resources, acquisitions, or digital collections.
  • Experience with a Library Services Platform (LSP).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in evidence-based collection assessments in academic libraries.
  • Proficiency in data visualization.
  • Experience in licensing agreements for library resources.
  • Competency in Ex Libris Alma Analytics.
  • Knowledge of standard practices in harvesting data for library collections.
  • Evidence of scholarship and service appropriate for the rank of Assistant or Associate Librarian.
