Professional management of library collections according to library science best practices and library policies and procedures. Deliver compelling programming for environmental education (all ages), general interest and technology curriculum for adults, among others. Participates in both short term and capital improvement projects. Performs collection management, including acquisitions and weeding. Schedule includes evening and weekend hours. The Adult Services Librarian may occasionally serve as Manager-on-Duty as well as back-up for the Library Director.

Essential Duties:

  1. Perform collection development tasks, including anticipating trends, selecting materials to meet user needs and weeding for the Young Adult, Graphic and Manga collections and others as assigned.
  2. Develop, plan and implement compelling and well-attended programming for all demographics, with emphasis on environmental education for all ages and young adult general interest.
  3. Responsible for technology curriculum, including staff and volunteer training, coordination with Lake County Library System and maintaining a robust class schedule.
  4. Responsible for bibliographic database integrity and accuracy, including timely additions, material mending and publishing restrictions.
  5. Responsible for supervising staff assigned to cataloging and marketing functions, including setting goals, coaching, developing skills and improving productivity.
  6. Make presentations to public and private groups and agencies, assists in updating event calendars, signage, social media, webpages, and other publicity materials to promote awareness of library facilities, activities, and services.
  7. Responsible for volunteer recruitment, training and results, including coordination with peers, Human Resources and patron feedback.
  8. Serves as Adult Literacy point of contact for volunteers, adult learners and the Lake County Library System Literacy.
  9. Models excellent customer service traits at all times, serving as a mentor and role model for staff and plays an active role in the library’s positive and patron-driven culture.
  10. As manager-on-duty, assists with monitoring and correcting patron behavior to ensure a safe and welcoming environment and supervising shift employees when scheduled.
  11. Participates in various professional organizations and groups (e.g. LCLS Reference Users and UX groups) and maintains cordial and beneficial working ties with peers.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school.
  • Customer service and programming experience in a public library experience preferred.
  • Requires extensive computer literacy and practical experience with electronic devices and formats including social media.
  • Ability to work with library customers and staff in a consistently friendly, respectful and efficient manner
  • Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s license.
